Marks and lockups

A mark is a start. It is not the brand.

Concept, craft and variants designed for recognition at small sizes, in motion and on noisy digital surfaces. A logo alone does not create a brand.

What a mark can do

The job is recognition, not a clever isolated drawing.

A logo has to survive favicon size, a noisy feed and a single-colour print. Pixoflix designs the mark, the lockups and the usage so production is not guessing. We will also say when you need identity work around it, because a symbol without type, colour and rules rarely holds after the first campaign.

What you receive

A mark with the variants production actually needs.

The set is built for files people will export, not for a single hero rendering.

  1. 01

    Primary mark and wordmark

The core drawing, with optical adjustments for the sizes and backgrounds it will actually meet.

  2. 02

    Lockups and variants

Horizontal, stacked, icon and single-colour versions so crops do not invent a new logo.

  3. 03

    Usage and misuse rules

Clear space, minimum size, colour on light and dark, and the treatments that break recognition.

  4. 04

    Asset system

SVG, print and raster exports named by use, plus source files for future lockups.

  5. 05

    Honest scope note

A written recommendation on whether type, colour and applications should be specified next.

Where marks fail

Pretty in a presentation, weak in the places customers see it.

  • The current mark collapses at sixteen pixels or in a social avatar.
  • There is one file and no lockup for horizontal, stacked or icon use.
  • Clear space and colour versions were never specified, so partners improvise.
  • The symbol is distinctive on a slide and invisible on a paid placement.
  • Leadership treats the logo as the entire brand and wonders why campaigns still look unrelated.

How the mark is built

Territory first, then concepts, then a file system.

We do not start with decoration. Context and constraints decide which ideas are worth drawing.

  1. 01

    Understand brand context

Category, audiences and the surfaces the mark must survive before any sketch is treated as a direction.

  2. 02

    Define visual territory

What the category already owns, what you should not copy, and the few attributes the mark must carry.

  3. 03

    Explore concepts

Several distinct directions, tested at small size, not only as large presentation art.

  4. 04

    Refine direction

One route is tightened for weight, spacing and reproduction, including single-colour use.

  5. 05

    Build variants

Lockups and crops for the real placements: avatar, nav, print and paid units.

  6. 06

    Prepare asset system

Exports, naming and a short usage note so the mark can leave the studio without us.

Useful when

A logo project is the right size for some briefs, not all.

  • A new company needs a mark before a full identity programme.
  • The current logo fails at small sizes or in paid placements.
  • Legal or a rename requires a new symbol with a controlled handoff.
  • You already have type and colour, and only the mark is the weak part.
  • Partners keep receiving a low-resolution PNG and nothing else.

What we judge

The mark should still read when the file is small and the background is busy.

  • Recognition at real sizes

The symbol remains distinct as an avatar, a nav item and a single-colour print.

  • A set, not a single file

Lockups exist for the crops people will actually use.

  • Clearer production

Partners stop redrawing the mark because the rules and files were missing.

  • An honest next step

If the brand still needs type, colour and applications, that work is named instead of implied.

Related work

Marks will be shown with their lockups and constraints.

When studies are approved, they will appear in Work with the variants, not only the presentation rendering. Nothing is fabricated here.

Published case studies will appear here when they are cleared.

Questions

Buying questions, answered directly.

  • We can. Many briefs still need identity around the mark. If type, colour and applications are undefined, we will say so before you treat the logo as finished brand work.

Next move

Need a mark that still reads at sixteen pixels.

Send the surfaces it has to survive. We will say whether you need a logo set or a wider identity.
